When day turns to night most photographers pack up their gear and call it a wrap. The goal of this class is to show you how to produce amazing images in low-light and night time situations. This class is perfect for the intermediate photographer who’s interested in practicing with manual exposure settings, using long-exposure times and “HDR” (high dynamic range) tricks to pull off awesome pictures at night. Pack your tripod and a head torch and join us for an after-hours photography exploration of Zurich’s old town. You’ll learn some techniques that will change the way you approach cityscape photography.
Viewfinder Center, Stampfenbachstr. 157 & Zurich Old Town
Participants will need to purchase a local tram ticket for zone 110. We’ll take public transportation from Viewfinder down to the Zurich city center for our shoot.
This course is conducted in English.
Participants with an intermediate or advanced skill level will find this course interesting and enjoyable. Foundational photography skills, such as those covered in Viewfinder’s popular Digital Photography 1-2-3-Course are recommended.
We recommend a digital SLR type or a mirrorless system camera and a wide angle lens. A tripod is an essential item for this course. Don’t forget to charge up your camera battery beforehand. An extra battery may also come in handy. If you own a cable release (for triggering your camera’s shutter) please bring that as well.
No meal provided. Coffee and tea are available at Viewfinder for those who arrive early.
Minimum of 4 participants, Maximum of 7

This course begins with a short theory session at Viewfinder followed by a walk to some of our favourite Zurich night scenes near the Limmat river and historic Old Town. Our shooting activity takes place during the post-sunset “blue hour.” Our group will spend about 30 minutes each in three different shooting locations. Your instructor will be available to assist with exposure and compositional questions. If time allows, the class will regroup at the nearby “Rathaus Cafe” for a drink and informal picture review.
