Viewfinder’s third fashion photography workshop will be a unique opportunity to practice a number of important technical and creative skills. This three-part workshop begins with a short “pre-production” meeting in Zurich (an essential first step before any fashion shoot). Our all-day shoot will be held at an exclusive hilltop estate – providing the perfect backdrop to compliment our three professionally styled models. Join Elaine Yager one week later for insights on typical post-production fixes in Photoshop such as skin retouching and fly-away hair removal. If you’ve ever wondered how to organise, style, light and edit your own fashion production, then this workshop will give you some valuable insights.

20. June (Winterthur) 9:00–16:00
28. June (Viewfinder Center) 10:00–14:00
Viewfinder will provide transportation to and from Saturday’s shooting location in our company van (from Viewfinder Center). We will depart from Viewfinder Center at 9:10. Please be punctual.
A sack lunch will be provided on Saturday (included in your workshop fee). A choice of several sandwiches is available during registration. Lunch on Sunday 28. June is not provided.
This workshop is geared toward intermediate and advanced photographers who are ready to challenge themselves with lighting techniques, working with models and building a fashion story with images. It will be necessary to work in manual mode and some experience working with artificial lighting will be useful. If you’re not quite comfortable with your camera, you might consider taking our popular dSLR 1-2-3 Digital Photography Course.
EQUIPMENT & CLOTHING
We recommend a digital SLR type camera (or mirrorless camera system) and a variety of lenses. Medium length lenses 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm will be especially handy. There’s no need to bring a tripod, but if you own a reflector and/or a speed light you’re welcome to bring those with you. Viewfinder will provide lighting equipment which is compatible with both Canon and Nikon systems. Dress comfortably for an outdoor urban shooting environment.
Minimum 6 participants, maximum 9 participants.
Elaine Yager and Matt Anderson
Registration closes three days before event.
Friday (19:00 – 21:00)
On Friday evening we’ll rendezvous in Zurich for a pre-production meeting. Elaine and Matt will explain important details about the logistics for Saturday’s shoot. Elaine will explain the concepts behind her styling and how to work with professional models. We’ll check out Elaine’s mood boards and get some valuable lighting tips from Matt beforehand. Please bring your camera (one lens is enough) to this meeting. Matt will walk you through the process of managing a combined available-light & artificial light exposure for our location shoot on Saturday.
Saturday (9:00 – 16:00)
We’ll rendezvous at the Viewfinder Center at 9:00 on Saturday morning, departing in the Viewfinder van by 9:10 for our off-site shooting location. The entire day will be spent at that location. We’ll wrap up and return to Viewfinder at 16:00.
Sunday (10:00 – 14:00)
A week after our shoot we’ll have a Photoshop editing session with Elaine at Viewfinder. Elaine will demonstrate some tried and true techniques for skin and hair retouching using Photoshop’s powerful “layered editing.” At the end of our Photoshop session, participants are welcome to print A3 or A4 images for their portfolios (for a nominal fee).
