Terrific Photography Composition course today! I just loved it and can't wait for the next one. Thanks Matt!
During this one-day course, students focus on the fundamental building blocks of photographic composition. After a brief presentation at Viewfinder to get the creative juices flowing, we’ll head across town where we spend the afternoon working on several composition assignments in an urban setting. By working exclusively in black & white, you’ll strengthen your visual sense as you practice with several key aspects of composition. In the afternoon we’ll return to the Viewfinder Center for some picture review and instructor feedback, analysing our images for the factors that make some photographs stronger than others. This is a more cerebral course, with an emphasis on the creative (rather than technical) side of photography.
Viewfinder Center, Stampfenbachstr. 157, 8006 Zürich & nearby locations.
This course is conducted in English.
Open to all skill levels.
Any camera will work fine for this course but we prefer to use 50mm fixed lenses for our shooting exercises. Viewfinder has extra 50mm lenses (Canon and Nikon) for students to use.
We’ll take a 45 min lunch break at 12:00. Lunch is not provided.
Minimum of 5 participants, Maximum of 9.

Registration closes two days before event.
This event takes place rain or shine.
Our Composition course starts with a short presentation on the four hallmarks of good photographic composition. Photographers will be introduced to a “tool-kit” of various techniques that can add interest to their images. In the afternoon we’ll be outside working on several shooting assignments which push students into taking a different approach. The course finishes with a feedback session at Viewfinder where the instructor and students evaluate assignment photos together, discussing their strong points as well as areas for improvement.
The composition course was a real eye opener! Learnt to rethink reality. A wonderfully inspiring afternoon that just makes you want to get to work.
