black and white photography

If you’ve ever wanted to experiment with black and white photography, but weren’t sure where to begin – then this creative two-session photography trip/course is perfect for you. We’ll get you started with some compositional tips to help add interest and intrigue to your own black & white photos. The right subject matter makes all the difference and we’ll surprise participants with a secret shooting location after having a short composition discussion here at Viewfinder on Saturday morning.

Following our black and white shooting day, we’ll meet at the Viewfinder Center (the following Thursday evening) for some black and white conversion tips (using Adobe Lightroom). This two-part trip/course is a great way to add some creative skills and post processing know how to your photographic repertoire.

Meeting at the Viewfinder Center on Saturday for a short lesson (10:00 – 11:00), then venturing out to our secret location for hands-on practice. Evening lesson on black & white conversion at Viewfinder Center on the Thursday evening following our shoot (19:00 – 21:30).

After our short morning lesson about composition and contrast, our group will pile into the Viewfinder van and depart to our off-site shooting location. We’ll be returning to the studio on Saturday evening before 17:00. There is no transportation need on the follow up evening. Simply meet us at the studio.

EN/DE: This trip/course is conducted in English but both trip leaders speak German/Swiss German and English fluently.

Open to all skill levels and all ages. Foundational photography skills, such as those covered in Viewfinder’s popular dSLR 1-2-3 Digital Photography Course are helpful but not required.

Come with whatever camera gear you have. It’s helpful if your camera can photograph in RAW format (most digital cameras do) but even this is not entirely necessary. We’ll focus on creativity and improving composition in a way that benefits your own black and white photography – rather than technical or equipment-related topics. If you have a laptop computer with Adobe Lightroom installed – you’ll be perfectly prepared for the Thursday evening tips on black and white conversion.

Viewfinder provides a sack lunch on Saturday (sandwich, chips, apple, chocolate bar & water). Select the sandwich of your choice during registration. Coffee, tea and water are available at our studio for participants who arrive early. Dinner is not provided on Thursday.
