Alex Keuning is originally from the Netherlands, but has lived in Switzerland for 12 years. In addition to her family, Alex has two big passions in life: her love of animals and her love of photography. She is fascinated by the connection people have with their pets and she takes pride in capturing that bond for her own portrait clients.
Alex has been studying photography since the end of the nineties when she bought her first analogue Nikon DSLR and has completed many courses along the way. After switching to Digital in 2006 she continued her education in Zürich in 2010 and in 2012 enrolling in courses at Viewfinder Center. She completed the Advanced Study program in 2016 and attended various specialised pet photography workshops since then.
Christine Wiestner is originally from Zimbabwe but has called Switzerland her home since 1991. She became seriously interested in photography during a holiday in Scotland in 2012 while photographing the coastal landscape. Through photography Christine has been able to satisfy her need to be creative.
Christine enjoyed participating in Viewfinder’s Advanced Photography Study in 2016-17 which deepened her interest, understanding and control of her camera. She enjoys photographing all matter of subjects from portrait to macro and landscapes. In August 2017 Christine traveled to her native Zimbabwe to partake in one of Viewfinder’s exciting Wildlife Safaris. It was her first trip back in several years and she found it easy to take inspiration from the warm-hearted people and breathtaking natural beauty around her.
Dagmar Anderson was born and raised in Switzerland’s Rhine Valley. She began working at the Viewfinder Center with her husband Matt in 2014 and her passion for photography has been growing steadily ever since.
Dagmar finds that photographic inspiration comes easiest while traveling or while pointing her macro lens at smaller, less noticed subjects. Her chronically itchy feet get scratched by assisting on photography workshops across Switzerland and also abroad. When she is not traveling she can be found working away at Viewfinder where she manages Viewfinder’s registrations and helps plan excursions across Switzerland and abroad.
Juleah Claar grew up in the Kansas City, USA, and moved to Switzerland in 2016 with her husband and two children. Her love of photography began in high school when she took a photo class and learned how to develop her own film. The move to Europe re-ignited her interest in the art, and today she is passionately exploring many genres of photography to feed her creative itch. In 2019 Juleah completed Viewfinder Center's 10 month Advanced Study program.
Actively researching and trying new techniques has allowed her to build a diverse portfolio. She’s an avid adventure-seeker, spending her weekends hiking, photographing cultural events, or taking the train into Zurich to continue her love of shooting street scenes. Instagram has been a powerful exposure and networking tool for her, and her work has been published on several tourism-related websites.
Matt Anderson, a proud native of America’s Pacific Northwest, first became interested in photography as a high school student when a clever yearbook teacher thought to channel his restless energy into documenting life on campus with a donated 35mm camera. From that point on he was hooked!
After studying journalism in the USA, Matt worked as a newspaper photographer, learning to capture story-telling moments in an unobtrusive style. He still prefers photographing in that manner, letting the subject or scene speak for itself. Matt moved to Switzerland in 2008 after marrying his “Swiss-Miss” (Dagmar), and together they’ve been developing the Viewfinder Center since 2012. Matt’s zeal for travel and outdoor adventure help fuel his pursuit of interesting subjects and experiences to share with fellow photographers in the Viewfinder Center community.
Michael Böhlen, was born in Switzerland in 1980. He found his interest in photography while living abroad in New Zealand for a year.
During trips to Ireland’s coast and back to New Zealand, his passion for photography grew steadily. After a three-week trip to Scotland he decided that his skills needed improvement. This lead him to join Viewfinder’s Advanced Photography Study which he completed in 2018. Mike’s main photographic focus is on landscapes but he also has a talent for capturing interesting abstract and conceptual shots as well as creative portraits.
Hailing from Birmingham UK, Neal relocated to Switzerland in 2011. After being taken aback by the abundant natural splendor of Switzerland, Neal started taking an interest in photography but it didn’t kick in fully until 2017 when he attended Viewfinder's Digital Photography 1-2-3 Course.
Although a relative newcomer to the hobby, Neal’s enthusiasm for photography has grown after attending several Viewfinder events and day-trips. Neal has caught the bug to such an extent that he will be joining us in October 2018 for our Northern Lights trip to Norway, his first photography expedition, in what promises to be an exciting adventure.
Paulina, originally from Poland, came to Switzerland in 2008 initially just for 3-years of studies but fell in love with the Swiss landscape and stayed ever since. Her passion for photography was inspired by her father as she took her first photos with his old analogue Zenith camera back in her teenage years.
Paulina’s camera is always accompanying her on various trips and travels where she enjoys photographing places, events and people. Completing the Advanced Photography Study in 2018 gave Paulina more confidence in the technical aspects of photography and challenged her to expand her artistic interests beyond beloved wildlife and landscape topics.
Peter McCarthy grew up in the UK but has called Switzerland home since 2000. His interest in photography developed as a result of a need to document the other passion in his life: travel.
Peter enjoys exploring new destinations, with an emphasis on the natural world and wildlife. Having attended Viewfinder’s Advanced Photography Study in 2017-18, his photographic subjects have broadened to include portraits and sports.
Renée Erdin-Sorensen grew up mostly in Zurich, Switzerland. A college photography class sparked her interest photography. Since then the camera has been a steady companion on her many travels.
Renée completed Viewfinder’s Advanced Photography Study in 2018 and has attended numerous other day-trips around Switzerland. Her recent enchantment with macro photography has her probing the undergrowth in search of fascinating new subjects for her colourful portfolio.
Roger Weder grew up in the Eastern part of Switzerland and is a proud Rhein Valley native. Roger’s photography journey began just a few years ago but his adventures have taken him a long way already.
Roger was initially inspired to take up photography by his sister Dagmar and his brother-in-law Matt. He enjoys learning and expanding his knowledge any chance he gets. Roger especially enjoys photographing landscapes and all aspects of nature photography. In 2016 he traveled to northern Norway for Viewfinder’s Northern Lights Photography tour and completed Viewfinder’s Lightroom Beginner’s Bootcamp.
Tim Hugh’s passion for both photography and for Switzerland was inspired by his uncle who spent his working life in Switzerland and was a keen medium format film photographer.
From a young age Tim was interested in photography and after moving to Switzerland in 2003 his hobby developed into a passion. He feels lucky to follow in his uncle’s footsteps as he fervently photographs his surroundings in Switzerland, which he believes is one of the most beautiful places in the world. We definitely agree!
