This course is open to all skill levels. Foundational photography skills, such as those covered in our popular Digital Photography 1-2-3 series are recommended.
We recommend a digital SLR camera (a camera with changeable lenses) or a mirrorless camera (such as those from Sony, Fujifilm, Panasonic or Olympus). We have found wide angle and medium focal length lenses to be the most useful at this location. If you own a 50mm lens please bring it along. Please be sure to charge your camera battery and don't forget your memory card.
Van pick up at Zurich main train station, Museumstrasse 1, 8001 Zurich.
Matt Anderson is the principle instructor and director at the Viewfinder Center. Matt has been living in Switzerland since 2008. His photography career began sixteen years ago while studying journalism in the United States. As a daily newspaper photographer he acquired a broad base of photography skills and found himself shooting all manner of subjects from sports and news events to portraits and feature assignments. Working as a regular freelancer for the Associated Press, he learned some important lessons about shooting under pressure. These days he balances a busy teaching schedule with photography projects for commercial clients in the Zurich area. Matt’s work has been recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists, the National Press Photographers Association (USA), and the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers.
Our Creative Junkyard visit starts with a short orientation to the shooting location plus a few handy composition tips to consider as you explore. Participants are encouraged to wander freely and follow their "creative spirit." The instructor is nearby to help with questions whenever you need support. After shooting for a couple hours we'll take a lunch break at a nearby restaurant, then re-visit the Junkyard for another hour in the afternoon.
